The Florida Gators clinched the NCAA men’s basketball title in a thrilling showdown against the Houston Cougars, sealing the win with a dramatic final play—but the excitement didn’t stop there. As millions of fans tuned in to watch the drama unfold, advertisers brought their A-game, competing for attention, resonance, and impact.

We’re breaking down the top-performing ads from the tournament, from Selection Sunday to the championship game, using MarketCast’s Brand Effect solution, which captures real-time feedback from actual viewers to reveal which ads cut through the noise—and why.

MarketCast’s Top 5 Ad Breakthrough winners during the Men’s College Hoops Tournament all scored well above the Ad Breakthrough norm—measuring how well audiences remembered the ad and correctly linked it to the brand.

Breakthrough with Humor and Personality

MarketCast’s top Ad Breakthrough performers brought the laughs—whether it was Freshpet’s pet-parent antics or GEICO’s valet-parking Gecko. These personality-driven spots didn’t just entertain—they stuck, landing the #1 and #2 spots on the leaderboard, and crushing MarketCast’s norms.

Familiar Faces, Sports Vibes

Star power showed up strong. Dick’s Sporting Goods featured big names like Tom Brady and Suni Lee, while Buffalo Wild Wings‘ mascot Hank delivered comedic hijinks with a March Madness twist—plus an official NCAA sponsor stamp for extra cred.

Meanwhile, TurboTax nailed the moment with a perfectly timed filing-day reminder. The ad aligned seamlessly with the tournament, making its message feel timely, relevant, and right on point—boosting its MarketCast Ad Breakthrough 24 percentage points above the norm.

Capital One’s Winning Throwback

MarketCast’s Top 5 Branding MVPs spotlight the ads that drove the strongest brand attribution across the Men’s NCAA Tournament—including two standout newcomers not featured in the Ad Breakthrough Top 5.

Capital One’s “March Madness: Hoopla” delivered legends and laughs, scoring 30 points above the norm with its all-star trio of brand spokespeople—Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley, and Spike Lee. Meanwhile, Taco Bell’s “Slow Roasted Chicken” turned up the flavor with CARLIÁN’s catchy track and bold Cantina close-ups, landing 29 points above the norm.

Other standouts from the tournament included Homes.com, featuring the iconic voice of Morgan Freeman, and Ford’s stirring ode to America—both scoring 19 percentage points above the norm—along with DIRECTV, which rang in baseball season with a spot that landed 17 points above the norm.
