Seventeen years ago, Flo redefined insurance marketing, evolving into a cultural icon with her signature white apron, humor, and infectious energy. Since then, Progressive has expanded its cast — but which ones truly resonate?
Last month, we analyzed insurance brand mascots from ads that aired between January 2024 and February 2025 to see which ones truly resonated with audiences using MarketCast’s Brand Effect ad measurement solution. Now, we’re taking a closer look at Progressive’s beloved cast—Flo, Jamie, and Dr. Rick—to see how they measured up.
Flo: The OG Master of Insurance Messaging
Two decades later, Flo remains Progressive’s most iconic character, setting the brand’s standard for Ad Messaging. She topped the cast in Message Linkage at 8% above the norm and ranked second for Ad Memorability (+1%), just behind Dr. Rick. But here’s the twist—Jamie tied with Flo for Ad Breakthrough (+3%).

Jamie: The Rising Star
Jamie isn’t just Flo’s fun-loving sidekick anymore—he’s become a brand powerhouse in his own right. His goofy charm and signature grin surpassed Flo and earned him the top spot for Branding (+8%), meaning more viewers correctly associated his ads with Progressive. His Ad Breakthrough score also matched Flo’s (+3%), cementing his growing stardom.

Dr. Rick: Hilarious, But Hard to Place
Dr. Rick’s hilariously relatable “parent-life” lessons continue to delight audiences, securing him the top spot for Likeability (+4%)—outperforming his fellow Progressive mascots. But there’s a catch: audiences struggle to link him back to Progressive.
